Coinage of the
Severan Period - page #3
Listed below are additional coins from the Roman Imperial period, from 193
A.D. to the year 235 A.D. When Macrinus was acclaimed emperor upon the murder of
Caracalla, by the Praetorian guard, it was with the approval of the legions of
the East. However, in order to pay for a negotiated settlement with the
Parthians Macrinus repealed the 50% raise that Commodus had given the military ,
and the stage was set for an uprising. Having been defeated in a battle near
Antioch on June 8th 218 A.D. he was arrested and executed a short time later.
