AV Stater
Obv. - Head of Athena right, in crested Corinthian helmet
ornamented with serpent.
Rev. - Nike standing left, holding wreath and ship's mast; in
field to left thunderbolt.
Comments: 8.48 gm. Alexander began his career as the
King of Macedon; however, he only spent the first two years of his reign in
his native kingdom. By the time of his death at the age of 33 he ruled over
an empire that stretched from Greece to India.

wearing the horn of Ammon.
Rev. - Athena Nikephoros seated left, holding Nike, left
elbow resting on shield, transverse spear resting against her right side,
monogram above knee, BY on throne, ornamented trident in
exergue.
Comments: 8.61 gm. Struck circa 100
B.C. Lysimachos was one of the 'Successors'
of Alexander the Great, he was of Thassalian
lineage, and was a bodyguard for Alexander while he was alive. This coin and
the next coin (GG0003) are part of an 11 coin hoard that was discovered
recently.
