Roman Coinage
of the Turbulent Years
Listed below are coins of the Roman Imperial period, from
the year 235 A.D. to the year 284 A.D. After the murder of Severus
Alexander and his mother Mamaea in the year 235 A.D. the Roman Empire entered
into a period of turmoil that lasted for almost 50 years. During this time there
were 34 "regular" emperors and at least 50 usurpers, most of these emperors and
usurpers met with violent deaths.
