Roman Coinage of the
Constantinian
Era
Listed below are coins of the Roman Imperial period, from
306 A.D. to the year 364 A.D. During this period the family of Constantine I
(The Great) ruled and battled over the Roman Empire. During this time under
Constantine I Christianity was installed as the official state religion, and the
capital of the Roman Empire was moved to the ancient Greek city of Byzantium (to
be renamed Constantinople in honor of Constantine I). Many of the Roman coins of
this period bear reverse designs of a militaristic theme, revealing the many
military campaigns fought during this time as well as the almost military
dictatorship under which the citizens of the Empire lived.
